Company description

CJ Hole area profile.

Here in the Clifton office we cover a huge swathe of the city. Our office deals with property in Clifton, Redland, Kingsdown, Cotham, Sneyd Park and Stoke Bishop. We also look after the city centre, harbourside and Hotwells even reaching as far as North Somerset.

This part of Bristol is vibrant and thriving and it has seen some incredible changes over the years. It’s also where most people want to live.

CJ Hole was actually founded in Clifton three centuries ago by Mr Charles Joseph Hole himself. We pride ourselves on the fact that when many of the city’s beautiful Victorian villas were actually being built for the wealthy merchants – we were already in business. Over the years the company grew to cover a large part of the south west and establishes us as one of the oldest and most experienced names in the field.

Of course Bristol has changed dramatically since the mid 19th century. There’s been enormous redevelopment and renaissance down in the docks area after a decline in the port industry. Many of the beautiful old buildings have had new life breathed into them and they sit alongside edgy, contemporary waterside apartments.

Bristol is now a bustling mix of medical, university, aerospace, computer and media industries, to name but a few. Families, students and professionals flock here from all over the country looking for a taste of what one of the most beautiful parts of the country has to offer. There are now almost half a million people living here.

Bristol’s even been named the UK’s most sustainable city because of its environmental performance and quality of life! It’s also, believe it or not, one of the warmest and sunniest places in the country.

Houses.

If you are looking for it – we can probably find it for you. Do you want an apartment by the waterside or a conversion with lofty ceilings in a grand old Georgian mansion? Bristol is filled with beautiful architecture and elegant Victorian squares. We have everything from generous Bath stone family homes to the traditional Edwardian properties nearer the Downs.

Facilities.

Bristol is the largest city in the region and is amazingly served by shops, theatres and green spaces. Tourists and people in the South West come from miles away to use the sparkling new Cabot Circus shopping centre as well as Cribbs Causeway next to the M5. Take your pick from John Lewis to Ikea and even Harvey Nichols. Clifton village and most of the residential areas are also heaving with gorgeous delis and local boutiques and traders. If its culture you want then look no further than the Bristol Museum, the Royal West of England Academy, the Hippodrome and the SS Great Britain, to name but a few. Bristol really is a Mecca and outside London – we think it’s unbeatable for culture and nightlife. Our world famous guerrilla artist Banksy drew thousands of people to Clifton last year with his impromptu exhibition.

It’s also a city that’s kept as much of its green space as possible. The Downs which are circled by Clifton, Stoke Bishop and Redland are used by almost everyone in Bristol. They are a place to walk, jog, or barbecue and relax. The beautiful Ashton Court Estate, Blaise Castle and Leigh Woods are also all within easy reach and the perfect place for a stomp or a bike ride. There’s even Bristol Zoo right in the middle of Clifton!

Education and Health

The City is of course home to one of the most prestigious “redbrick” universities in the country. There are 23,000 students at Bristol University. We also have the University of the West of England, two further education colleges and three Theology colleges.

This bit of Bristol has the best schools in the city and there’s a lot of choice. In total there are 129 infant, junior and primary schools and 17 secondary schools. We also have the country's second highest concentration of independent schools like Clifton College and Badminton. We’re just pipped to the post by one exclusive corner of north London in that respect.

Transport

We are 105 miles west of London and 24 miles east of Cardiff and we couldn’t have better links to the rest of the country .The trains out of Temple Meads and Parkway are frequent and fantastic and there’s an enormous bus and coach station in the heart of the city. The M5, M4 and M32 are just minutes from the centre but if you work in Bristol then getting around on foot or bike is being made easier and easier. We were even named “ England’s first Cycling City” two years ago. Bristol international airport is also on the doorstep- you can fly direct to 112 destinations across 29 different countries, from Paris, to Scotland and New York to the Carribean.

Why Bristol?

Most people who come to Bristol don’t want to leave. It’s a gateway to the beautiful south west and all that Devon and Cornwall have to offer. The same goes for the short trip over the bridge to glorious Wales and all those Pembrokeshire beaches. And as thousands of people will attest – it is possible to commute back to London or Birmingham and yet enjoy the quality of life that only Bristol can offer. Culturally it’s amazing. The sports facilities are fantastic- and we even have two football teams! It’s a glorious city with a rich and amazing history and a bright future.

Here at CJ Hole -we can help you find a home here.
